Passive House (German: Passivhaus) represents the future of low energy housing. Passive House is the only internationally recognised, performance-based energy standard in construction. Passive House is a voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building's ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for heating or cooling. Generally speaking we spend more time inside than ever before. For people who work indoors - this can equate to up to 90% of our time. Indoor air quality can be 5 times more toxic than the air outside. Passive House ensures clean internal air, reduces our reliance on fuels to heat/cool our homes in the Australian context and ensures internal spaces are healthy and comfortable.
